Last entry for 2011

Well my injuries from my fall are still hindering in all aspects of life. Hope the knees heal up ASAP. I went back to the treadmill on Wednesday and ram 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Used the safety cord.

Thursday ran 3.3 miles in 31 minutes.

I am back at it. Barely.

Late december 2011

My knees are all bloody, my right ear is skinned up and oozing, right hand bloody and the top of my head is abraded very bad and is nearly bleeding. That is my condition after I came home from a short run on Christmas eve day. I think back about what happened and why.

I ran down to the apartment office workout room (.35 miles away ) to run on the treadmill. I only had a half an hour to run so I thought I could get in 3 miles easy. This would be a safe run out of traffic on Reid School Road. I got on the treadmill and gradually worked my way up to an 8 minute pace. I was also trying to hit 190 strides per minute. I began to get really winded and had to stop the run by straddling the belt. I was really pushing it at a mile into it. As I stopped to slow my heart down I began to feel light headed too. The next thong I remember was waking up with my head on the moving belt. I struggled to lift my head up. It felt like minutes. Like I was being eaten by a monster and I was conscious while it happened. Help!

So I did get up and i remember thinking "did I fall asleep while running?" and wondering if i had gotten much sleep the night before. There have been times I've done dumb things when sleep deprived . I turned the machine off then headed home. I thought it was funny and I laughed at myself. I was not sleep deprived. I ate a huge amount of lasagna the night before. This morning I had two cups of coffee only after waking. So the coffee was at 830 am and my run started near 11 am.

Another factor in the passing out was my fitness or lack of it. I went to Indiana for the week and did not exercise at all. Even before that my workout load had hit near rock bottom. I did get 12 miles of running the week before going to Huntington.

One day you are finishing a ultra distance triathlon (140.6 miles)and another day you are passed out, face on the ground after 1.4 miles.

Oh yea the treadmill did have a safety cord that I ignored. I think I learned my lesson there. Wear it dummy! Eat breakfast! even a small one before a workout. Take it easy after a week or so of no workouts and a light training load.

Right before I passed out I was trying to get my pulse rate reading from the handhold sensors built into the machine. I wish I would have had a monitor on for continuous readout. I have gotten into a rut lately of not wearing my monitor the last two months.

So i am now nursing my wounds. The knees are pretty bad with lots of skin missing. Road rash? I also am at a real low point mentally and physically. I will begin running again and riding. At the end of January I expect to join the Y and swim. My goals are non specific but going back to Wilmington in October is a possibility. I have a long way to go.
